ALLEGED THEFT ON A BOAT
A young man, respectably dressed, Daniel O'Keefe, was charged at the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice I Hosking-, with the theft of a watch, a chain, a pendant, a ring and other articles, and £10 in money, to a total value of £26 176 6d, the property of Stephen Andrew Lilley. Tho theft was alleged to hiivo been • committed on* tho --steamer Nikau during her wyage from Nelson to Wellington on 3rd July last, The acoused is a steward. Ho pleaded not guilty, and was defended by Mr. P. W. Jackson. Mr. Macassey represented tho Crown. .The jury returned a verdict of guilty. Accused will bo eontencod to-morrow morning.
