CLEARED FOR ACTION
BRITISH WARSHIP FOLLOWS, GERMAN. < OTTAWA, 4th August. The American battleship California .reports that the German cruiser Nurnberg has loft Honolulu, supposedly for Samoa or southern seas. A report from San Diego (California) states that the British warship Shearwater has left with her decks cleared for action, and Jghting j s imminent. [The Nurnberg, built in 1906, is a small cruiser of 3450 tons, carrying ten 4.lin guns and eight 5-pounders. Her designed speed was 23i knots ; but there is no indication of what it is now. The Shearwater is a sloop, of small fighting value, and of about the same class as the old Torch, well known in New Zealand waters.] /
