EMPRESS OF IRELAND WRECK ENQUIRY ADJOURNED EXPERT EVIDENCE REGARDING LINER'S RUDDER. (By Telegraph.- l'rc*<; Association.- Copyiighl.) QUEBEC, 25th Jun<\ Hearing of evidence at the cnnniiy into tho collision between the (.ansidiiin Pacific Riulioad Company's steamer Empress 01 Ireland and the Norwegian collier Slorstad in the St. Lawrence l'her, resulting in the .sinking of the liner with the loas of 1021 lives, has concluded. Counsel for the National Sailors' and Firemen's Union addressed the Commissioner, and the enquiry was then adjourned to allow counsel for the Storstad and the Empress of Ireland to prepare' their addressee. Subsequently the Commission vr-ill hold pi i vale conferences, to sift the evidence with the aid of the assessors and the Admiralty cxpcits appointed by tho Dominion and British Governments. It is expected that ihesc sessions will last about two weeks. An expert called by the Stoislad's lawyers testiiied that he believed that the Storstad struck the linei 1 at an angle of 40 degrees. The expert claimed that the enlarged rudder of the Empress ol Ireland was inadequate. * • Mr. Percy HillhouseS of Hip company which built the Empress of Ireland, recalled, stated that the liner's rudder had a greater percentage to the submerged area than was usual in modern lineis.
