A fire this morning at Shannon, ten miles north of\ Levin, destroyed Merwood's refreshment looms-,, Richardson's butchery, Jenkins's saddlery, and Hook's billiard room. The Bank of New Zealand was saved by the efforts of a bucket brigade. Merwood was uninsured and his loss is £120. Hook's loss is £125. Jenkins was also uninsured and his loss is £250. Richardon was insured for £100, and his loss is small. The insurance on Iho buildings amounts to £300. The owner of the buildings is Mrs. Curran.
