Jenkins beat Castle, 6 up and 5 to play ; J. Ball beat M'Donnell, 1 up ; C. Aylmer beat Lord Charles Hope, 2 and 1 ; Captain Hutchinsoi. beat A. May, 2 and 1 ; H. Weber (America) beat J. Remer. 1 up. In the second round, A, Lockwood (America) beat R. Crummack, 1 up ; Hilton beat Thesiger, 6 and 4; Han-is beat E. Chrystal, 8 and 7; E. Blackwell beat S. Fey, 7 and 6; Carr beat Palmer at the nineteenth hole ; Apperley beat., Balfour Melville, 4 and 3 j Hamsbro beat Chadwick, 4 and 3 ; Ferguson beat barker, 1 up ; Evans beat Bretherton, 2 and 1 j Whitton beat Hale, 4 and 3 j Kead beat P. May, 5 and 2 ; W. Murray beat J. Murray. 5 and 4 ; Lochart beat Hill, 1 up; Gillies beat Darwin, 3 and 2. Ball made a poor start, being 3 down at the ninth hole. However, he made a characteristic recovery, and, though he over-drove to the last, won an exciting match by a brilliant putt.
