The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club promoted a young bird race from Blenheim on Saturday, but owing to the severe weather the birds were not liberated till Sunday. The stormy weather was more thiin they could compete against and no birds arrived home until last evening, when two put in an appearance,, one lrom J. B. Sutherland's loft and one from J. Dixon's loft, the former winning the contest. The teucheis' physical training camp is being carried on under most unfavourable weather conditions, but notwithstanding this the woik is being proceeded with, and the various classes are making excellent progress. it fays much for the enthusiasm ami spirit of the teachers that, undaunted by the worst weather experienced here for a considerable time, they are carrying out their programme as originally drawn up. It is generally conceded that the work being done will prove of the 'Very greatest value to the teachers taking part. Last evening an enjoyable concert and dance was held in the Assembly Hall at the school, there being a large attendance of teachers and citizens. Songs and elocutionary items were given, a.lso a lantern lecture by Mr. Davies, of Ureytown, winch was greatly appreciated. Dancing was afterwards "'indulged in and terminated a very pleasant evening.
