MAGISTRATE'S COURT

To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court wa-s presided over by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. For drunkenness, Annie Peet. who had been previously convicted on four occasions, was cent to gaol for one month. Mary Johnston was fined 20s, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment, and made the subject of a prohibition order. Kate Brady was fined 10s for drunkenness and fined 20s, with 7s costs, for a breach of a prohibition order. The alternative was fixed at one month's imprisonment. Margaret Williams was fined 20s for inaobriety, and fined a similar amount for entering a hotel during the currency of a prohibition order. The option was fixed at one month's imprisonment. On a charge of importuning, Minnie Brown was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. _ Henry Greenfield and Andrew Somerville were each fined 20s, with the alternative of three days' imprisonment, for drunkenness, \vhile George M'Kenzio was mulcted in a fine of 10s. Michael Sullivan pleaded guilty to using obscene language, and was fined £2, with the alternative of one month's imprisonment. George Patrick M'Namara, William James, and Arthur Potter were each fined 10s, with the alternative of three days imprisonment, for breaches of prohibition orders. Margaret Setter was fined 208, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment, for assisting Annie" Widdas, a prohibited person, to commit breach of her prohibition order. Widdas was con' victed of the breach and fined 10s, with the option of three days' imprisonment. Henry Evans was sentenced to three months imprisonment for the disobedience of a maintenance order (arrears £18 8s). Sentence to be suspended so long as 4s was paid off the arrears each week. Samuel Blood, £5 13s in arrears, was ordered to be imprisoned for one month, wan-ant to be suspended so long as 2s 68. a week was paid off the arrears. Denis Yore was ordered to pay 5s a week towards the maintenance of Gerald Yore, a destitute person. For disobeying a maintenance order (arrears £2 7s 6d) Albert Nicholson was fined 10s. Charlotte Smith was granted a separation order against her husband, William Smith.
