BOMBARDING THE DEVON FRIDAY'S BIG GUN PRACTICE.

The final arrangements for the big-gun shooting by the Wellington Garrison and Royal New Zealand Artillery, before General Sir lan Hamilton, on Friday next, are now being completed. The principal feature of the shooting will be tho bombardment of the wrecked steamer Devon from Fort Dorset. This will be opened at 10 a.m. with ten rounds from the big guns by the Permanent Artillery, and will be followed with another ten by the Territorials. Both lyddite and common armour-piercing shell will be used. Whether Sir lan will pro* ceed to inspect the effect of the fire upon the vessel depends upon the elements and the time at his disposal. After completing his inspection at Fort Dorset, General Hamilton will go straight to Fort Ballance, where No. 9 Company Garrison Artillery will fire twenty rounds of 6in h.p. shell, and when the shooting there* has been completed he proceed to Fort Kelbume, where another twenty rounds of tho same ammunition will be fired. It ia hoped that there will be a full muster of the Garrison Artillery at the forts on Friday, as there have been excellent "turn-outs" at the other three centres, and it is desired that the Wellington men shall put up an equally good showing.
