RAILWAY MANAGEMENT
TO TBS EDITOR. Sir,— l notice in to-night's Post that the headquarters staff of the Railway Department in Wellington have succeeded in managing the Territorial special trains, and it puzzles me to know why they cannot provide a decent suburban train service, which, as you *know, is outrageous. They can run special trains on Sundays, but our service does not provide a train between 2 p.m. on Sunday and 9.10, a.m. on Monday. We are told they are making up a new time-table, but it appears, from the rate they are doing it, that it will be years before it arrives. I might say that the j service in to town is fair, but out is disgraceful. We have not a train out between 6.25 p.m. and 10.20 p.m. There is a goods train about 8 p.m., but they refuse to allow passengers on that. We are told that it would cost about £4000 to run the main suburban trains to Lambton Station, but, notwithstanding the fact that 700 or 800 people use those trains and it' would save 80 'per cent. ' of them a mile walk every day, they still refuse to do it, and then we are told what, a competent crowd they are. The joke is against^ us all right. Still, it is a matter which should be remedied at once, arid I ' wish more able pens than mine would come to the fore and do their duty. Hoping an' improvement will arrive soon. — J am, etc.', NGAIO. 28th April, 1914.
