MAYORAL ELECTION
' 10 THB EDITOR. Sir,— There are several points in Mr. J. P. Luke's advertised address to tlie electors that are not so clear as they might be, and one at least I should like to have cleared up, though the Mayoral election is now over. That is as to the tramway concessions. Mr. Luke says '.—. — I " The concessions during my term of office have been given as follows :— ' 16 two-section rides for 2s ; 14 three-section rides for 2s 6dj 14 four-section rides for j 3s.' These concessions total £4000 per annum, as against concessions granted the previous year of £2000." Now, as I understand the matter (1) both these tramway concessions J were only rendered possible by the putting of the tramway finances on a sound basis during Mr. M'Laren's term of office j (2) the second concession was decided upon during Mr. M'Laren's term, even if it did not come into force until Mr. Luke's term of office; and, therefore (3) tho credit for both the £2000 concession and the £4000 concession is justly due to Mr. M'Laren, not to Mr. Luke. I have good reason to believe that I am by no means the only elector who would like to have this question cleared up.— l, am, etc., ARTHUR. WITHY. t ' Wellington, 30th April, 1914.
