SHOOTING AT TRENTHAM

NO. 5 AREA GROUP MEETING. ON EASTER MONDAY. The first annual prize meeting of No. 5 Area Group Rifle Association, which will be held at the Trentham Rifle Range' on Euster Monday, 13th instant, promises to be a distinct success. With a view to making the fixture as popular as possible, thu committee of management has arranged a special programme of nine matches, with substantial prize money, which should appeal to shootists. In all, 200 prizes, valued at £75. bebides several valuable shields and trophies, will be distributed. The conditions for the first six matches are -as follow-.— (1) Grouping Match— 100 yards, second-class figure target, 5 rounds, conditions same as practice No. 1 Musketry Course, 1913-14. In case of ties, smallest group to win. (2) Application Match-— 2OO yards, second-class figure target, 5 rounds, conditions same as practice No. 2 Musketry Course, 191314. (3) Snap Shooting Match—2oo yards, 5 rounds} target, figure 3 (head and shoulders). 6 seconds exposure, hits on any part of target count 3 points, condi> tions same as Match No. 2 B series D.R.A., 1913. (4) Rapid Shooting Match— 2oo yards, 10 rounds, secondclass figure target, conditions as practice 7 Musketry Course, 1913-14. (5) Application Match— soo yards, first-clasa figure target, 7 rounds, optional sighter. (6) Judging Distance Match—Visual range finding, number of distances four (4), time limit one minute for each distance, conditions as Match 7 8.R.A., 1913. For competing Territorials in each of these matches the following prize money is offered:— lst prize, £1 10s; 2nd prize, £1; 3rd prize, 10s; five prizes of 7s 6d each ; and ten prizes of 5s each. Senior Cadets competing in the same events are offered the following amounts : —Ist prize, 16s; 2nd prize, 10s ; three prizes of 5s each ; and ten prizes of 2s 6d each. In the aggregate match (the scores in matches 2, 3, 4, and 5 to count) the following prize money is offered i—For Territorials : Ist prize, £2 and Volunteer Championship Belt; 2nd prize, £1 10s; 3rd _ prize, £1 • 4th prize, 10s. For Senior Cadets : Ist prize, £1 and Young Soldiers' Cup ; 2nd prize, 15s ; 3rd piize, 10s; 4th prize, ss. Tlie eighth match will be for company teams, five moil per team, to be nominated before shooting commences, and the scores in matches 2, 3, 4, and sto count. In this match a Challenge Shield will' be awarded to each of the winhing Territorial and Senior Cadet teams, and 75 per cent, of \he entrance fees will be provided according to entry. The ninth match, for which a Challenge Shield is offered, will be for company teams' aggregate judging distance, 5 men a team, to be nominated before Match 4 commences, and scores in match 6to count. The match will be open to territorials and Senior Cadets. If time allows, an officers' match will be arranged on the ground. The committee of management cottv prises Captain Pdwles (chairman), Major Matheson, Captains Richardson, Roache, Hastings, and Williams, and Lieutenants Mardon and Hugo. Lieutenant C. Gasquoine is acting as hon. secretary, and Lieutenant MacMorran as assistant hon. secretary. Entries close with the _ sec-, retary or any member of the committee not later than Wednesday, the Bth instant.
