Dr. -Wilson, of TTanganui, left by the Tahiti en route "or a trip to England yesterday evening. Mr. -F. Holdsworth, Mayor of Onslow, has decided not to allow himself to be nominated for a further term of office. Mr. W. A. Kennedy, Wellington manager for the Union Steam Ship Company, who is on holiday leave, was a passenger to Papeete by the Tahiti last evening- . The Mayor (Mr. J. P. LuKe), who has been on a visit » to Napier on account of the illness of his son (Mr. J. Pearce Luke), will return to Wellington on Monday evening. Mr. John Dorrell, a very old resident of Greytown, died last night, at the age of sixty. Mr. Dorrell had lived in the Wairarapa since ,he was twenty-five years of age. Dr. Cockayne, F.R.S., the well-iknown scientist, intends to leave Christchurch and take up his residence in Wellington, which is a better centre for carrying on the researches on which he is engaged. * Sir Joseph Ward will pay a visit to Picton and Blenheim on Tuesday speaking at the latter place on Wednesday. He will then go on to Nelson, where he will deliver a political address on Thursday or Friday. Mr. E. 0. Challis, head of the Dairy Department of South Africa, who has been on a visit of inspection of New Zealand's dairy methods, was a passenger for Sydney by the Moeraki yesterday, en route to South Africa. It was stated at last night's meeting of the Wellington Hockey Association that Mr. E. H. Hiley, General Manager for Railways, had been a prominent hockey enthusiast at Home, being an ex-international player. Mr. Hiley was elected a vice-president of the association. Mr. W. L. Page, of the commercial staff of 'the Evening Post, who is leaving to take up an appointment on the Clarence and Richmond Examiner, Grafton, N.S.W., was to-day presented with a travelling rug for himself and a gold brooch for Mrs. Page on behalf of the staff. Mr. C. Stubbs made the presentation. At the spring exhibition of the Royal Society of British Artists, of which Mr. Frank Brangwyn, R.A., is the newlyelected president, now being held at the society's galleries in London, Mr. H. Linley Richardson, R.8.A., of Wellington Technical College, is exhibiting a number of paintings and drawings of children and Maori subjects. The Rev. Keith Ewen, Baptist minister, formerly of the Berharapore Church, and later of Giaborne, is leaving for England shortly on an extended holiday. He is at present in Wellington, and will preach to-morrow evening in connection with the annivedsary services at the Vivian-street Church. Mr. Ewen will leave New Zealand at the beginning of next month. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Law a Tennis Association, tendered his resignation as a member of that body at a meeting of the committee on Thursday evening. The resignation was accepted with regret, and the secretary was instructed to write to Mr. Fisher, expressing the committee's appreciation of the services he has rendered the association for many years pasi/. Mr. William Thacker, a very old resident of Wellington, who died recently at his residence, Rintoul-street, left a widow, one son, six daughters, thirtysix grandchildren, and twenty-five great* grandchildren. His son is Mr. W. Thacker, Adeiaide-foad, and hie daughters are Mrs. J. LeeK, Berhampore ; Mrs. Southwood, Koputaroa; Mrs. Elton and Mrs. T. Sargeant, both ot Kilbirnie; Mrs. C. Harden and Mrs. S. Mason, both of Berhampore. Mr. Henry Otterson, Clerk of the House of Representatives, contemplates retiring from that position at the end of June, by which time he will have nearly completed forty-two years' service and be within a few days of 68 years of age Mr. Otterson was born at Richmond, and educated at the Nelson Catholic School and Nelson College. He became a committee clerk in the House of Representatives in 1870, and two years later was promoted to the position of Pveader, which he filled for three years. From 1875 to 1889 he was Second Clerk Assistant, and Clerk Assistant from 1889 to 1898, since which time he has occupied his present position. Mr. Otterson has done valuable work in compiling a list of Che rulings given by various Speakers, and his presence will be greatly, missed by all those whose business take's them to the House during the session^
