A GIFT RECALLED.

Sir T. Vezey Strong, who presided at a recent meeting of the Advisory Com«mfttee of the King Edward Memorial Fund at the Mansion House, announced that he had received from "the anonymous lady " who had promised £25,000 towards the laying out of the Shadwell Maifcet site as a public park in memory of King Edward a letter saying that to her deep regret .and disappointment, owing 'to very severe and sudden financial misfortunes, she would be unable to fulfil her undertaking. The offer of £25,000 was announced by Sir Vezey Stiong on 21st March, 1912, | when he said it was conditional on a 'similar sum being raised by public subscription. vThe total cost of the purchase and laying out of the Shadwell Market site 'was placed at £100,000.
