LODGE MEETINGS

The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Newtown Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., was held in St. Thomas's Schoolroom, Newtown, when a fair number of members and visitors attended. Four new members were initiated by the Grand Master, Bro. G. King. After the routine business was over, the lodge closed at 8.30, on account of the Excelsior Lodge of Druids paying a visit to compete for the 500 shield. Play started at 9 o'clock, and resulted : -—Newtown * Lodge, 4 games ; Excelsior Lodge, 5 games. P.G.M. Bro. Guy, in presenting the shield to the Druids, said he hoped that this was only the commencement of many happy hours in friendly rivalry between the various friendly societies in the Wellington district. Cheers were given for the winners. A pleasant evening was brought to a close at 11 p.m. A special summoned meeting of Pacific Lodge, U.A.0.D., was presided over by the Grand President, Bro. Thompson, of the North Island Grajid Lodge, and was largely attended by members and visiting brethren from the various sister lodges. Business of importance was dealt with, after which an address was delivered by the Grand President in support of the progressive measures now engaging the attention of Grand Lodge Executive. Those present were keenly interested. The ordinary fortnightly meeting was also -well attended, A.D. Bro. Rubinstein presiding. Official visits were received from the Mclrose and Island Bay Lodges, Druids in Wellington are to have some interesting times during the coming winter months in the way of card tournaments, and competitions in ritual work for shield. Two shields arc to be presented by the Druids' Sports Association, recently formed, for competition in indoor and outdoor sports. An official visit will be paid Island Bay Lodge on the occasion of the installation of I.A. Bro. Beu as Distuct President.
