Twelve months ago it was announced that for Exhibition time six big boxing contests, each for £1000, would be promoted. The Boxing Association, was not ■ financially in a position to undertake a programme so big, and ifc entered ilito a= ( contract with Mr. Bris Doyle, who was to act as the association's agent, c find the purses, and share with the as- s ' flociation any profits which might ac- £ crue. Mr. Doyle found certain barriers " in the way, and transferred his agree- n ment with the association to a Mr. Mitchell. The latter paid Doyle £250 a and committed himself to ■ further ex- n penditure of £400 in arranging (through £ Tommy Burns) for engagements with " M'Coy, Wells, Morey, Hegarty, and £ Daniele. ° The New Zealand Boxing Council had *~ heen inclined at first to view with dis- R favour the contract entered into, but * Mitchell saw Mr. M'Villy, of that' body, - and pointed out that all contests were to be absolutely controlled by the Northern Boxing Association, and with that .explanation Mr. M'Villy had been - satisfied, and a police permit for the fo, fights had bepn granted. „ Advice has now been received that the police permit has been cancelled, ll and urgent representations on the sub- ?< jert are now being made to the au- ?i thorities in Wellington by Mitchell and ,n by the association, which says it can- n not understand why the cancellation le ha* been ordered.
