Crowded with close on 170 passengers, the union steamer Manuka arrived in Wellington from Sydney direct just before 10 o'clock this morning Medical inspection was carried out in the stream and two hours elapsed before the vessel berthed at No. 6, Queen's Wharf. The New South Wales port was left early on Saturday afternoon, and the run to Port Nicholson was favoured with fine weather. The passage was a thoroughly enjoyable one. though quite uneventful. A large cargo of 659 tons was brought to Wellington, and this included a quantity of fruit. t h£ h .c«.. c «. Jranulca will sail to-morrow evening for Lyttelton and Dunedin, at which port she will withdraw from the intercolonial service for survey and overhaul. The Warrimoo, which left Wellington yesterday, will take up her running temporarily.
As the stay in Wellington of Mr. \V. A. Ilolman (Premier of New South Wales) was so limited to-day, he having to catch the Main Trunk train, a civic reception could not be tendered him. When Mr. Holman returns, in a fortnight's time, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) has arranged that 'the civic reception will take place.
