WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY'S PICNIC
The employees of tho Wellington Gas Company had an onjoyable day at the Alexandra Hall, Abel Smith-street, on Saturday. Owing to tho wet weather tho annual picnic, which had been arranged for Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, was abandoned, and the day was spent at the hall. There was a good attendance of employees and their families, and the cooporation of all present helped to provide entertainment throughout the day. A band, under the conductorship of Mr. Shardlow, enlivened tho proceedings, and a Punch and Judy show amused the children. Fruit, lollies, toys, and ico cream were liberally supDlied to tho children, and a numbor of races for tho little ones were run off), and thoro were somo close finishes. Several competitions for adults wore arranged, and resulted as follow :— Potato race, Mrs. J. Mann; ladies' skipping competition, Miss Barratt; hat trimming, Mr. Davis; nail driving, Mrs. Taylor; ladies' guessing, Mrs. Cooper.
