BOXING CHAMPION
CARPENTIER LTONISED IN PARIS. TO VISIT AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph.- I'ress Association.— Copyright,* PARIS, 15th December. Georges Carpentier, the boxing cham. pion, was entertained by the French sporting world at a luncheon in a boulevard cafe in Paris, and presented with a valuable testimonial. The boulevard outside the cafe wa» rendered impassable by an immense crowd that assembled to catch a glimpse of the champion. The champion, who is receiving £800 weekly for spai ring displays at the Folies Bergeres, Paris, declined a similar offer from the London Palladium. > SYDNEY, 36th December. Carpentier has accepted Mr. R. L. Baker's offer for three matches in Sydney. Mj. Baker is negotiating to secure "Gunboat" Smith as an opponent of Carpentier for the "White Men's Cham*
