BUTCHERS' HOLIDAY AT CHRISTMAS
—■ *a» — v With respect to the attitude of tho master butchers and the coming holiday, Mr. A. Cheeseman, secretary of tho Trades' Association, points out tliat the proposal to hold a long holiday at Christmas this year will not interfere with firms who have contracts to supply, as provision is made in tho award for them to keep open for two horn's daily for the purpose of carrying out thoii? obligations. Further, only live butchers have objected to the holidays, via. , from Christmas Day to tho following Monday morning. Some years ago, however, tho same holidays were observed without demur when Christmas Day fell at it does this year. The present occasion has been taken as the opportunity for the men to have a good holtday and visit Auckland Exhibition if they want to.
