HERRMAN LEWIS'S BANKRUPTCY

MEETING OF CREDITORS. A meeting of oreditors in the bankrupt estate of Herrman Lewis was held this morning the Official Assignee (Mr. A. Simpson) presiding. There were thveo creditors present when tho mooting commenced. The Official Assignee announced that tho proceedings would not bo open to tho press. Afterwards a reporter was informed that Messrs. A. Dunn and C. W. Tringham had been appointed supervisors to act with tho Assignee. No statemont of assets was available, and tho amount of tho liabilities has not yet been ascertained. So far about oigkt proofs of dobt havo been received, but there are a number of others to cotno &n, and they oan bo received up to Ist December, two months after the adjudication. When more information has been gainod a further meeting will bo held. IMPORTANT SALE POLICE BARRACKS TO BE BUILT. The Theatre Royal site and the building erected thereon have been sold by John Fuller and Sons. The site is a municipal leasehold, which was recently renewed by the City Corporation on condition that a new building should be erected. The present sale is of the goodwill of the lease and the old theatre building. The Club Hotel is not included. It is understood that tho Government is tho purchaser and intends to use the site for tho erection of up-to-date police barracks. The matter will come before tho City Council to-morrow night.

Mr. Charles MacMahon returned to Wellington to-day, after a nine months' visit to London and the Continent. Ho arranged for and directed a special feature picture, "London by Night and Day," which covers the vastly populated district from Windsor Castle to Petti-coat-lane. Mr. MacMahon has also purchased a number of melodramas, which will bo staged in New Zealand in duo course.
