A BLIND PHILANTHROPIST. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) LONDON, 30th August. Mr. Alfred Hirst, the blind philanthropist and wool expert, ib dead. DR. TEMPEST ANDERSON. LONDON, 30th August. Dr. Tempest Anderson, > the eminent authority ou ophthalmic diseases, and a distinguished student of volcanic phenomena, died from enteric fever in the Suez Canal, on his way home from the Philippines. [Dr. Anderson was born in 1846. Ho had a distinguished student's career at University College, London (Exhibition and several medals) and at the University of London (Exhibition and University scholarship). He was interested in the housing problem and the preservation of open spaces, and was consulting Opthalrnic Surgeon to the York County Hospital, and a Fellow of the University College, London.]
