ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
(bt telegraph— press association.) HAMILTON, 29th August. The body of Ettie Douglas, 37 years of age, and a married woman, who left a note on 9th July at Cambridge that she intended to drown herself, has been recovered in the Waikato River at Huntly. At the inquest a Verdict was returned of suicide while temporarily insane. PALMERSTON N., 29th August. . A Longburn settler, Mr. R. D. Knight, when driving home from Palmerston this evening, was caught at the level crossing by the incoming Wellington train, and, with a companion, hurled from t!he trap. Mr. Knight was considerably knocked about. His shoulder was dislocated, and some ribs were broken. He was dazed, but not seriously injured. His companion escaped. The gig was smashed, but the horse was not touched. The road crosses the line ( diagonally, and there is a clear view the' whole way of passing trains.
