REDUCING THE FRONTAGE

m IS MIRAMAR GOING IN FOR SLUMS? BOROUGH "COUNCILLORS DISAGREE. There was talk by some councillors at last night's meeting of the Miramar Borough Council of a slum area being created in the borough, when a proposal concerning the frontage of dwel* lings Was discussed. It was moved by the Mayor (Mr. Townsend) "That 35 feet be the minimum frontage for sections of one-eighth of an acfe." An amendment was moved that the minimum frontage be 40 feet, as at present. Cold water was thrown by Councillor Bell on the suggestion that a slum area would be brought about by a 33 feet frontage. The proposal would, he said, have the desirable effect of inducing people to buy land in the borough. According to the Mayor, what the borough really wanted was people, and reducing the frontage would mean a step in that .direction. The amendment was lost, and the motion subsequently carried.
