SEATOUN FERRY SERVICE
WILL IT TERMINATE TOMORROW ? MIRAMAR COUNCIL PERTURBED. "Pretty hot, isn't it?" remarked a councillor at last night's meeting of the Miramar Borough Council upon receipt of a letter from the Wellington Harbour Ferries Company, Ltd., regarding the Seatoun»Wellington sea service, the contents of which caused some perturba-' tion. According to the letter, the Eastbourne Borough Council could not see its way to run the steamer Cobar to Seatoun and Karaka Bay for the month of September, in order to complete the Ferry Company's contract with the Miramar Borough Council. It wae pointed out that the Eastbourne Council had given the company to understand that they would endeavour to complete the contract for the company. " This mean«." ran the letter, "that the service to Seatoun and Karakft Bay by water will terminate to-morrow (Saturday), unless the borough is prepared to allow the company to substitute the j steamer Admiral m place of the Cobar, in terms of the contract at present in existence between the borough and this company. If your council permits the substitution of the Admiral for the Cobar, then the service will be maintained until 30th September next." The Mayor (Mr. Townsend) remarked that he did hot think the couhcil should accept the proposal. "That means," remarked another councillor, "that they will have to forfeit their subsidy?" The Mayor replied in the affirmative. Ultimately it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the committee to consider the position immediately.
