THE WEATHER
Mixed weather and variable winds are the order of the day. The barometer ranges from 28.62 to 28.82 in in the Dominion. The present southerly winds may be expected to go round to the west, to tho accompaniment of unsettled and oloudy weather, with showers at times in different parts of the country.
An exceptionally rough voyage was experienced by the Union Company's steamer Moeraki, which arrived in the stream from Sydney at 10 o'clock last night. Practically throughout the trip a strong south-easterly gale raged and the vessel was tossed about considerably. The seas were so bad at times that volumes of water came over the side, flooding the saloon and some of the cabins. Although she left Sydney well up to time, she did not reach Wellington until a late hour last night, which fact gives some idea of the buffeting the vessel was subjected to. Under ordinary circumstances the Moeraki should have arrived in port some fourteen hours earlier than .soo did.
