WAIRARAPA DEFEATS TARANAKI
CARTERTON, 27tli August. There was a large attendance at the representative match between Taranaki and Wairarapa. The weather was fine and the ground in good order, and the game resulted in a win for Wairarapa by 18 points to 14. From half-way early in the game, Roberts put in a great run and passed to Loveridge, who touched down near the corner. Loveridge had the kick! which hit the post. Taranaki 3, Wairarapa 0. Promptly from the kick-out Taranaki again attacked, pushing Wairarapa hard. Roberts secured the ball and made a splendid run, and passed to Meuli, who scored. Loveridge converted. Taranaki 8, Wairarapa 0. Suddenly Wairarapa made a rush, and carried the ball to T&ranaki'e twenty-five, where A free-kick was given to Wairarapa, practically all the yellow men being off-side. M'Kenzie kicked a good goal Taranaki 8, Wairarapa 3. A fihe passing rush by the home backs carried the ball to Taranaki's twenty-five. Here Strang centred, and the Wairarapa forwards took possession, and pushed Taranaki back, Clarke, scoring at the corner. M'Kenzie just missed with the kick. Taranaki 8, Wairarapa 6. A tremendous Taranaki rush later overcame the defence, and S. Cameron touched down. Roberts failed to convert. Taranaki 11, Wairarapa 6. The second half saw the tables turned on Taranaki. The Wairarapa. forwards did as they liked and simply romped over them. Brougn took a mark, and M'Kehzie essayed a kick at goal, but Taranaki charged too soon and a second kick was allowed and a goal recorded. Taranaki 11, Wairarapa 9. Then the Wairarapa forwards really wakened up and played magnificent football, overcoming all opposition. Taranaki were cornered and played strenuously, but Wairarapa would not be denied, and from a loose scrum close to the goal .the ball went to Darvill, who cut in and tiansf erred to Clark, who touched down as he was grassed. M'Kenzie got another "poster." Wairarapa 12, Taranaki 11. From a free-kick givefa against Roberts for off-side play, M'Kenzie kicked a goal. Wairarapa 15, Taranaki 11. From off-side play by Pini, M'Kenzie registered another goal. Wairarapa 18, Taranaki 11. Taranaki made a strenuous effort to drive Wairarapa back, and a fine passing rush by the backs in Wairarapa'B twenty-five saw Meuli cross the line. Lovendge failed to convert. Wairarapa 18, Taranaki 14. Mr. S. ,E. iVl'Kenzie was referee.
