FAR NEARER THAN THE PUBLIC KNOW AND WITH DIFFICULTY AVERTED. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) Times— Sydney Sun Special Cables. (Received August 30, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, 19th August. Referring to the twentieth Peace Conference opening at The Hague on the 20th instant, The Times says : "War has been near us-— far nearer than the public know— more than once during the past three years. The Governments know how suddenly danger has arisen and how hardly it haa been averted, and how many are the incalculable causes which may bring it again." OVER EIGHT HUNDRED DELEGATES. THE HAGUE, 19th August. There are over 800 delegates here for the Peace Congress.
