Four Indians have been sentenced to eighteen months' and two yearp' imprisonment respectively for abetting a widow to suttee (immolate herself on the funeral pyre of her husband) before fifteen hundred spectators. The prisoners were terrified into helping the woman to thus commit suicide because she threatened to invoke curies on them if they did not do as she asked.
