They dug a pit In a parade ground, partly filling it with wood soaked in kerosene. They then drove the leper* ihto the pit at the point of ' the bayonet. Thirtynino of the lepers were shot and incinerated in the presence of large crowds, and the fortieth was afterwards shot.]
