UNIVERSITY SENATE
MEDICAL STUDENTS' ATTENDANCE AT HOSPITALS. (BT TELEGRAPH— f BESS ASSOCIATION.) , AUCKLAND; This Day. The- University Senate referred to the Medical Committee a motion that medical students be permitted to attend at either the Christchiirch, Wellington, or Auckland Hospitals to acquire fur' the'r clinical experience. It was resolved that, owing to the importance ofmassage in the treatment of certain diseases, the Senate would approve' of Otago University granting certificates ' of proficiency in massage. CAPPING CEREMONIES. Considerable time was occupied in the discussion of a resolution from the Professorial Board of Auckland College — "That, in view of the interruptions at , recent capping ceremonies, the chairman be instructed to ask the Chancellor to suspend the capping ceremony at Auckland for at least one year," together with ' a motion by. Professor Brown—" That . diplomas won by students at each college be forwarded to its authorities, and the presentation left in its hands, and that the Senate confer degrees. Professor Brown said the college were the disciplinary authorities in each centre, and should conduct the ceremony. It was not the function of a university to provide entertainment where the public crowded to «cc people make fools of themselves. Professor Yon Haast seconded the motion. Dr. Fitchett could not support the motion. He., wanted to organise the noise, though, with more tact and control. The 'Chancellor shook his head, but he differed from the Chancellor.
