Before Dr. 'M'Arthur, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day, Walter Whit ing, stable proprietor, sued Annie Dexton and Mase Dexton, dairy farmers, oi Hutt Valley, on a claim for £12, dam ages alleged to be due for loss of a horse. His Worship gave judgment for defendants, who' were represented by Mr. T. Mi Wilford. Mr H. Buddie appeared for plaintiff. The Poneke Lodge, U.A.0.D., Petonej held its fortnightly meeting last evening, Bro. Richardson- presiding. The bards reported six brothers on the sick fund and their pay was accordingly passed. Bro. Gough's insurance scheme was discussed, and he was commended for his work. An industrial agreement ha# been entered into at New Plymouth 1»y the Borough Council and the corpqrati6n employees. This, with the exception of an agreement with a few slaughtermen at the abattoir, is probably the first agreement worked under by the New Plymouth Borough Council. The conditions include a 47* hour week, and the following minimum wage scale, providing for an increase all round of at least 6s per week : — ' Workers engaged in tunnel work or on sinking shafts over six feat deep in connection " with tunnels, 10s per shift of six hours where the , air ie foul, and 10e per shift of eight hours where the air is not foul; concrete workers, bricklayers' labourers, workers engaged in spreading metal, scaffolders, and all workers in wet places, Is 2d per hour ; general labourers employed on all other work (including drainage and sewerage workers), Is l£a per hour. The overtime provision allows for time and a quarter for the first two hours, time and a half thereafter up till 10 p.m., and double time between 10 p.m. and the usual hour of starting work the next morning. As there is not a drivers' union in the district, a clause was inserted in the award providing for the payment of £2 11s per week of 53 hours to drivers employed by the corporation. Mr. M. ,7. Reardon, secretary of the General Labourers' Union, wa« one of the assessors for i the employees. The Postal authorities adyiee that the mails which left Wellington on tho 13th September, per the s.s.
