THE STRIKE FEVER
10 IHB EDITOB. Sir,-» When will the workers recognise that the popular tendency to strike at all times and places is only playing right, into the hands of the very enemy they desire to annihilate— the capitalist? I refer to the true capitalist— the "fat" man— the really wealthy man. The average employer, although regarded by the ignorant as such, is not a "capitalist," but is more often than not a struggling worker of limited means, and unable to bear the strain of a prolonged strike. On the other hand, the real capitalist can, and is prepared to do so, for he knows that when all others are ruined he can come in and buy them up at his own price. The rumoured general Btrike, if it eventuates, will probably result in many of the smaller companies going to the wall, without seriously affecting the strong financial concerns. The. latter will then "rule the roost," and be in a position to employ who they like on what terms they like. It will then be a sorry time for the workers, and but poor consolation to know that they have only themselves to blame.— l am, etc., , ,„. COMMON-SENSE. Wellington, 20th Sept.'
