PYRIDINE IN POLISHES
METHYLATED SPIRIT AVAILABLE WITHOUT IT. A sequel to the recent deputation of furniture workers to the Prime Minister (the Hon. W. F. Massey) in regard to the use of pyridine in methylated spirit, for making Frenoh polishes is to be found in the following letter received to-day by Mr. D. Moriarty, secretary of the Wellington Furniture Workers' Union, from the Acting-Collector of Customs (Mr. William Rose) :— "Dear .Sir.— l am directed to inform you that the Minister for Customs permits the manufacture of methylated spirit without pyridine for polishes, ivith 5 per cent, of wood naptha only. The quantity to be supplied to any one polisher is not to exceed five gallons per "week unless under special permit from me. Purchasers of methylated spirit for polishing must give guarantee to me that all spirit received by them will be applied to polishing only. — (Signed) William Roae, Acting-Collector."
