SPRING FLOWERS

DISPLAY AT THE HUTT. A large number of people risited the display of spring flowers made by the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society at Lower Hutt yesterday. The show was an excellent one, and the general arrangements and decorations entrusted to the committee, assisted by Mrs. G. A. Chapman, were excellent. Great credit is also due to the president (Mr. G. A. Chapman) for- his untiring work in that capacity. The judgo had the option at his discretion of making special awards for exhibits put making special awards for exhibits put up for exhibition only, and he allotted "a. Royal Horticultural Society's silver medal to Mr. Graham Harvey for his table of carnations, cyclamens, and freesias. A silver medal was awarded to Mr. Henry Poole for his exhibition of pot plants, while Messrs. F. Cooper. Ltd., *ad Mr. ■Thomas Waugh received bronze medals of the Royal Horticultural Society for general display of pot plants and cut blossoms. A collection of rhododendrons from the Bellevue Gardens was vefv highly recommended. In Jhe decorated table competition^ Mrs. W. J. Hendry secured Miss ' Murray's verdict, and also the publio vote as having the best table. There were four competitors for Lord Islington's prizes for cottage gardens, and out, of a possible 600 points Mr. H. J. Parker was first with 452 points, Mr. A. M. Smith second with 453 points, while Messrs. B. H. Parker and .W. ,J. Webster secured 416 and 276J points respectively. The opinion of the judges wsb that tho three winners deserve all praise for the manner in which their gardens were kept.
