IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE WHANGAREI, 19th September.' The County Council have been asked to sign a joint and several guarantee to provide for £1771 in excess of the overdraft limit at the Bank of New Zealand. Four councillors signed, two refused to eign, and three declined to say whether they would sign now. Some £4000 is required to .carry, on till a rate is struck, but members refused to sign for that amount unless the council were unanimous. One councillor refused because the meeting was open to the press, and po ther bond was not entered into. As no funds are available wherewith to pay for getting the rate books compiled it is impossible to receive any revenue. The bank will not honour any more cheques, and so the county is practically bankTUpt. :
