MIRAMAR COUNCIL
TRAM TIMETABLES AND FARES. 'There were present at' h*V"Tiight's meeting of the Miramax Borough' Cotihcil the Mayor (Mr. H. N, M'Leod)) Councillors Bowie, Telford, Stone, Smith, and ' Grigg. - ' \ , Councillor Grigg's motion that' all ■ meetings of the council, including committee meetings, .be open to -the press, was lost. . The Mayor thought that tho meetings could be more fully reported. The resolution, however, would place the council in an awkward position at times, as there were a good many things touched upon in committee that could not be done in open council. Another motion by Councillor Grigc— "That the Tramway Committee be instructed to submit a scheme whereby return tickets at a single fare be issued ' to apprentices (and others similarly ehgaged) who reside in the borough, and are employed in the city, and to approach the city authorities and ascertain if they will do the same -on their lines " —was seconded by Councillor Stone and' carried. It was pointed out during the discussion that the Miramar Council now carried passengers at a cheaper rate than the City Council. It was decided that the Council should be represented at ihe enquiry as -to the proportion in which the cost of tho new Hutt-road should be borne by the local authorities. It wa« i decided to invite residents to the opening of No. 2 fire station (Seatoun) on Satuiday next, at 3 p.m. In connection with the exchange of land at Miramar between the council and the Wellington Harbour Board, it was resolved:— "That in exchange for the area, 2 acres 2 roods' 6 perches jmiramar-quay), dedicated by the WelJjngton Harbour Board as a public road. 80ft wide, the council resolves to transfer to the board the two areas df closed toad, -2 acres 1 rood 31 perches and 3 acres 2 roods 35 perches, as shown in the plan submitted by the board." The estimated cost of connecting Miramar-avenue tramway 'with the electric tramway at" the junction of Parkroad and Alexandra-street with the avenue, was submitted as £1250. The matter was left in the hands of the Tramway _ Committee. Respecting double fares on the Miramar line on Saturday afternoons, a let-ter-from the traffic superintendent mentioned that in the new time-table the footnote to the Miramar tables reads as follows:— "On Saturday afternoons, Sundays, and holidays, the borough line is divided into two penny sections at the Miramar and Seatonn junction. On Saturdays this takes effect on all cars leaving Courtenay-place after 1.35 p.m." The letter was received. Regarding the late car to Miramar and Seatoun, Ml 1 . Cable informed the council that under the present time-table cars leave the Government Buildings on week nights,' Saturdays excepted, at 10.22 and 10.37 p.m. for Seatoun, and 10.52 p.m. for Miramar. Asf there does not appear to be sufficient traffic to warrant the ruttnin"' of the two cars to Seatonn within fifteen minutes, Mr. Cable suggests tha advisability of reversing the running of the 10.37 p.m. and 10.52 p.m. cars, i.e., run the 10.37 p.m. car to Miramar and the 10.52 p.m. car to Seatoun. The matter was left in the hands of the Tramway Committee.' "'
