MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Before Mr. W. G. Riddell. S.M.. this morning Henry Richardson, charged with drunkenness, was remanded for a week for medical treatment. Peter Butler. r>n a charge of drunkenness, was lined 10s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment; on a similar charge Terence M'Alear was fined 40s, or in default seven days' in gaol. Margaret Mary Hambling, also charged with being drunk, was remanded till to-morrow. James Bates was remanded to appear at Christcfeurch to-morrow on a charge of having failed to' maintain his wife. James M'lntyre was ordered to pay Court cosUS (7s) for failing to carry h light on his bicycle. , William Ramwell Ingram, for whom Mr. T. Neave appeared, was charged with being the owner of a dangerous dog. From statements made by counsel and Sub-Inspector Sheehan, it appeared that on a recent Sunday morning a Mr. Bates was exercisihg two ponies in the water at Oriental Bay, one of them being ridden by a boy named Ward. The dog was attracted to the ponies by the splashing, and barked and jumped in front of them. Bates attempted to drive the dog away With ft whip, when it attacked one of the ponies and also bit the boy Ward. Insram had since destroyed the dog (a valuable one) and had paid the lad's medical expenses. Mr. Neave submitted that there was no proof that Ingram knew the dog was » dangerous one. The animal had never previously attacked anyone. His Worship reserved his decision. John Phillip de Souza was fined ss, with costs (14s), ion a charge of leaving his horse and cart unattended. For allowing a horse to wander, C. and A. Odlin were fined ss. with 7s costs. William Monaghan was fined ss, with 7s costs, for allowing stock to wander. A prohibition order was rsstted against Joseph George Wood. William Andrews was fined 20s. with 7s costs, fos leaving a horse and cart I unattended. At the Mount Cook Police Court this mommg, before Mr. T. Bland, J.P., the following were charged with drunkenness : Two first offenders were convicted and discharged; and John Kiely was fined 10s, m default forty-eight hours' imprisonment.
