Ist TBLEGBAPH— -SPECIAL TO THE P06T.1 MASTERTON, This Day. Dr. Truby King arrived in Masterton yesterday, and in the evening addressed a very large meeting, his subject being "Health and Fitness.' 1 Dr. King gave a most instructive and interesting lecture on the many causes of the degeneration .in physical fatness of the present generation. Ho mainly confined his addresss to tho questions relating to tho upbringing <>f children. At a meeting held yesterday afternoon in connection with the establishment of a High School in Masterton, it was decided, after much discussion, that the committee I confine itself to an endeavour to secure an Agricultural High School for the district. The Ma6terton Amateur Operatic Society staged "H.M.S. Pinafore" in the Town Hall last evening. The house was crowded, and the play was a success. The piece will be staged again this evening. OTAKI NOTES. (fit TELEGRAPH— BPECIAt 10 THB POST.) OTAKI, This Day. Mr. T. Carpenter left hero yesterday for a month's holiday on account of indifferent health . The Paraparaumu Horticultural Society's show took place yesterday afternoon, when glorious weather prevailed. There was a large atendanco of the public, the entries were splendid, and the exhibits fine ones. _ Several local growers are exhibiting, while other localities are well represented. Recently attention was drawn to the offonsivo odour arising from creeks, etc., in the vicinity of tho town. Councillor Skerman yesterday made the rounds with a view of .having the nuibar.ee abated.
