At a meeting of the Greymouth Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Kailway Servants the following resolution was carried unanimously: — "That this branch strongly protests against the announced intention of the Government to import an expert to manage the New Zealand Railways after retirement of the present general manager instead of promoting an officer from the service who would be thoroughly familiar with New Zealand conditions, and equally capable as a, railway man; and especially in view of the fact that it has been frequently stated by those in authority that every facility 'is offered to every member of the service to rise from the lowest to the highest position in it."
