CHARGE OF THEFT
AUCKLAND, 31«fc July. On the arrival of the Zealandia at Auckland this morning from Vancoui'er via the Islands, a. first-class passenger, William Greenland, was arested on a charge of having stolen £36 of the money of the Fiji Fruit Company at Suva, of which he was secretary. He wae brought before the. Police Court, and remanded for a week, pending the arrival of papers and an escort from Fiji to take him back to Suva, to meet the charge. Greenland wae accompanied on tha ooat by his wife, they having booked to Sydney. Mr. W. Hackett appeared for the accused, aud applied for bail. He btated that Greenland and his wife were on their way to Sydney for a holiday, and had had every intention of returning thereafter to Suva. ' Counsel added that the matters which formed the subject of the charge would probably be explained meantime- by wireless, enabling the charge to b« withdrawn. Bail was requested, and was fixed at one surety of £200, in addition to accused* own bond for that amount.
