[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PLUCKY RESCUE
AUCKLAND, 31st July. The plucky rescue of a wee girl, was witnessed in Dominion-road on Monday morning, the rescuer being somewhat severely injured, Nearing tho corner of Valley-road a tramcar and a gig, both coming from town, were approaching at a good pace. A standing horse and cart near the footpath hid from the' view of a, little girl of six the fast approaching car and gig. Stepping off the footpath she .essayed to cress the road, and immediately 6he found herself almost in front of the approaching danger. A spectator of the little girl's dilemma, was a young man, Mr. S. Bush. He sprang to the child's assistance. Crossing the rails in front of the approaching car Mr. Bush seized the child and had barely* time to throw her clear of the danger before he himself went down under the hoofs of the horse which was being driven in the gig. He was struck by the shaft of the vehicle and while on the ground one of the wheels passed over his body. Fortunately, it was a. very light conveyance, or he would probably have been more seriously injured. He was attended to ,by Dr. Moir, and found to be suffering from a dislocated collar-bone and' other injuries. Mr. Bush was conveyed to his home, and will, the doctor says^ be incapacitated for a month at least. The little girl escaped injury.
