JULY'S RAINFALL
It hna seldom been known in Wellington for the rainfall in inches for one month (especially in the month of July) to run into double figures. The total fall for last month (July) totalled 10.08 inches. Tho maximum one-day fall, which occurred on the 16th, was 2.33 inches. There were twenty -three wet days during I July. For June and July the* rainfall I was 16.41 inches.
Considerable discussion took place at fjthe ' Farmers* Union Conference yecter.day on the Government system of valuation. Mr. Ewan Campbell said "straight out" that the Government valuers wet© no fools. In. his long and practical experience it was rare indeed that the Government valued land up to Us full market value. He counselled. "Let sleeping dog& lie, and, for God's sake, don't wake 'em ! " Mr. H. Mackay observed that valuere £oniet tines went around to local land .Agents and obtained information on wliich valuations are tuused.
