BLENHEIM, 30th July. A batch of seven Territorials was before the court to-day for failing to attend camp. One produced a medical certificate, and was discharged. Five were fined 10, with 7s costs, and one 5s with no costs. Six other informations were> mentioned, but service was not proved. One excuse for not attending was that defendant had lost his horse,

and could not get a substitute. Another I said he wus twenty miles away, packing iv tho back-country, and alleged that ho had received no notice- to attend camp. PAINTINGS FOR AUCKLAND AUCKLAND, 30th July. The Mackelvie Trustees have received advice that Mr. Marcus Stone, R.A., had been successful in securing for them an important historical picture, " Victorious," by Sir James D. Linton, which will be forwarded ab once. Another valuable_ addition which has been made to the city gallery has been 6ecurcd from a grant made by the Government to the Auckland Art Society for the purchase of pictures. This is a. 6econd work by John Gully, the subject being Dusky Sound, one of the most picturesque of the Otago Weht Coast Sounds. TRIP ROUND THE WORLD AUCKLAND. 30th July. The Rev. Mr. Mason, who established a reputation as a water diviner, has accepted an invitation from planters in Honolulu to make a trip round the world with his wife, during which they will be the guests of the planters of Honolulu. Mr. Mason will endeavour to locate water for them.
