REPUBLICANS FEAR A SPLIT
PETITIONING TAJT TO WITHDRAW. By Tdeeraplj.--rre*B Association.— Copyright WASHINGTON, 9fch July. ' Thousands of Republican office-holders throughout the United States are petitioning President Taft to withdraw his candidature for a further term, fearing that a. split in the party will be certain to give the Democrats the victory. Colonel Roosevelt does not favour the petitioners' demand, but suggests that tto party should agree to ran a compromise candidate.
