WIFE'S SAD STORY ,

An extraordinary story was told at Wednesbury, in Staffordshire. , John Hayican, labourer, of Bilston-road, was summoned by his wife for desertion. The wife said they bad baen married four years, and her husband had been very cruel. He gave her a "black eye" three weeks after marriage, and she also had 10 jump out of a window to e'soape from his violence. He gave her a "hiding" once a month, and sho had forgiven him ho much that she could not do so again. The baby's bread and-ihilk he gave to the dog, and he aleo gave eggs which were bought for the children to his birds. If she spoke to him about this he either struck or kicked her. Last Saturday he assaulted her and lacked her about the yard like a football. He ajso^gave her the names of horses, and she was obliged to put niouey on themDefendant denied, the cruelty, but in view of the wife's statements the Bench adjourned the case for*a. week to enable her to call evidence.
