Major Harris, M.L.C., arrived yesterday afternoon from Auckland. Mr. John Baillie left last night for Dunedin, where he will open his exhibition of pictures next week. News nas been received by cable that Mr. O. E. Stout, youngest son of Sir Robert Stout (Chief Justice) has passed his LL.B. degree at Cambridge University whh third-class honour*. Mr. C Churchill-Jackson, chairman. of the Maiiriceville County Council, is spoken of as a candidate for the Wairarapa Waid on the Wellington Education Board. Mr. E. A. Little, a member of the council of the Wellington Rngby Union, was presented by members with a handsome cake and sweets fiiitnd on the occasion of his recent marriage. 111-health has forced Colonel Burnett Stuart to send in hk resignation of his position on the Headquarters Staff of .the Now Zealand Defence Force. Colonel Stuart leaves for England Bhortly. The New Zealand Alliance yesterday expressed its sense of loss by the death of Mr. T. E. Taylor, and his appreciation of his life and work; also its sympathy with Mrs. Taylor in the 'bereavement she had sustained. The Right Hon. James Bryce, British Ambassador io the United States, who in at present in Wellington, the guest of His Excellency the Governor, will be present at the "capping" ceremony of the Victoria College students to-morrow. In a few days a marble slab will be placed over the grave of Sir John Logan Campbell, on the top of Mauugakiekie, bearing the following simple inscription: " Sir John Logan Campbell, Kt. Mr. George Wright, who has been Chief Clerk in the Wellington District Office of the Laud and Survey "Department for many years', has notified his desire io retire on superannuation. He entered the Government service forty one years aj>o> and is several years short of the .retiring age. Mr. Alexander Dickson, chartered accountant, of Glasgow, died suddenly at Ms residence, 198, Adela ids-road, Newtown, on Tuesday. The late Mr. Dickson was well known in cricket and football circles. He was a keen sepporter of the Association gome, and. was often 6eea on the Basiii Reserve during the cricket season as an "umpire, lie leavesa widow and a son and daughter to mourn their loss.
