HARRY PALMER, AUCTIONEER.
Twelve years ago, when Harry Palmer started business, a regular pig und poultry sale in Palmerston North was a thing unknown. Pigs were sold at uncertain and irregular intervals by the live stock firms, whilst those having poultry, eggs, fruit, and produce had to hawk them round and take the best price offering. Harry Palmer, seeing the possibilities of this business, eyti" blished his regular pig, produce, and poultry sale every Sat qi day. This has now grown into an institution of the town and one of the leading markets of the Dominion. To show the dimensions to which tho market has giown, it mi''ht be mentioned that during the beacon "between 200 and 300 pigs aie put through each week, whilst 600 or 700 head of poultry is a common occurrence, and during Ghtktmaa P£ Sbaw \y_eols 1000
or more are sold, the record for one day being 1558 head. This speaks volumes in favour of a regular market. The firm handle all classes of produce, and receive consignments from all parts of New Zealand. They are also the distributing centre for the No. 3 Egg Circle. The firm are also house furnishers, having a well-stocked showroom adjoining their mart, and a factory in Feather-ston-street, fitted with all the latest machinery and where only the highestjjrade furniture is turned out by skilled workmen. Insurance is another department of the business, the firm being district agents for the Queensland Fire, Live ' Stock, Accident, and Marine Insurance Company. The whole business is under the direct control and personal supervision of Harry Palmer, an auctioneer of some twenty years' experience, and with a thorough knowledge of the business and the district generally. Visitors to Palmerston should make a point of having a look through the firm's premises, where the^r will be made cordially welcome, and any information they may require will be imparted.
