NEW ZEALAND POTATOES
' ADMISSION TO AUSTRALIA REFUSED. ' Bj Telegraph.— Press AsEociahon.— Copyrijlil. (Received June 25, 9.50 a.m.) MELBOURNE. This Day. The Minister for Trade and Ouslonie (Hon. F. G. Tudor) explains that New Zealand 'hud asked, for the relaxation of the prohibition against diseased potatoes so us to allow their admission if not more than three per cent, wtvs affected by prohibited diseases, but the Government declined jto accede. Sir Joseph Ward received the folio wi ing letter, dated 10th June, from Mr. Andrew Fishery Prime Minister of the Commonwealth :— '"Adverting to your telegram of 23rd May last on the question of the modification of the restrictions at present in force with regard to the introduction of potatoes from New Zealand into Australia, I have the honour to inform you that the representations made by the Prime Minister of New Zealand attd by yourself in connection with this matter htiyo received careful consideration, but it is regretted that it is not deemed advisable to modify the conditions of the existing proclama' tion governing the admission of potatoes to the Commonwealth from overseas."
