DEBATE IN HOUSE OF COMMONS COMMITTEE STAGE PBACTICAL SUGGGESTIONS WILL BE WELCOMED. By Telegraph.— Vxett Association.— Copyright. * LONDON, 12th June. The debate on the committee stage of the Home Bole Bill was opened in the House of Commons yesterday. An amendment moved by Mr. G. J. Sandys (Unionist member for Somerset), directing the committee to divide the Bill into two parts — one dealing with the Irish Parliament and the other with the constitutional alterations in the Imperial Parliament — was negatived. / The Hon. T. C. E. Agar-Eobartes (Liberal member for Cornwall) moved the exclusion of Autrim, Down, Armagh, and Londonderry from the operation of the Bill. Mr. Asquith, Prime Minister, said that any practical suggestions for rendering the safeguards effective would be welcomed : but the Government was unable to split Ireland into parts. Mr. Balfour, late Leader of the Opposition, said Ulster had no quarrel with the English Parliament, and no belief in its unfitness to deal with Irish affairs. "If the English Parliament had failed with Home Rule in Ireland, would the) Irish Parliament be any more successful with Ulster? The debate was adjourned.
