FOUND UNDER THE BED
AUCKLAND, 11th June. A rather sensational arrest was made at the Market Hotel-in Queen-street at about 9 o'clock this morning. The licensee (Mr. Loughnan) went to his room at that hour, and was surprised to find a man crouching underneath the bed. An enquiry as to the reason for his presence led to the answer that the intruder was "looking for -a man." Mr. Loughnan had a struggle with the visitor, and, getting him down, held him until tfce arrival of the police. On being searched, a quantity of jewellery and some money were taken from his pockets. At the Police Conrt this afternoon, the man, whose name was given as Rebert Long, was brought up on a charge of theft from a dwelling of jewellery valued at £15, the property of Mrs. Loughnan, wife of the licensee of the Market Hotel, "and, further, -with the theft of £3 10s in money. Accused was formally charged and remanded. MISCELLANEOUS AUCKLAND, 11th June. There has been a recurrence of that form of theft known as "harbour piracy." A week ago last Sunday night a raid was made upon fonr launches moored off St. Mary's Beach, Ponsonby, the cabin doors being burst open and quantities of valuable contents stolen.
